What can be found in the Nikola Tesla Museum?
Museum of Nikola Tesla
The Nikola Tesla Museum can be found in Belgrade, Yugoslavia and it keeps the complete collection of all the personal belongings of the great inventor. All of Nikola Tesla’s belongings were collected and transferred from New York to Belgrade after his death in 1943; this was done according to last will and through the efforts of Tesla’s nephew Sava Kosanović.
The wealth of the archive material that is consisting of over 150,000 documents that refers to the life and the creative innovations of Nikola Tesla. The significance of all his inventions and works are presented in the exhibition making the Nikola Tesla Museum a very important historical institute in Yugoslavia and the world.
Nikola Tesla Museum – Permanent Exhibition Room
The first room on the ground floor that can be found on the right side from the entrance contains a Nikola Tesla bust sculptured by Ivan Mestrovic. There is an inscription on the bust that contains Tesla’s own words on his life-long commitment to science as an exceptional professional researcher.
On the right side corner of the room, there is a large Nikola Tesla photograph as a young man and student at Graz, Austria. Below the photograph are three personal certificates; birth certificate, high school matriculation certificate at Karlovac and his passport.
On the displays also are the photographs of his native house and the church in Smiljan, Lika where his father was an Orthodox vicar. Both photographs showcased the starting point of Tesla’s life that he has never forgotten.
Letters from the world’s most famous scientist like Einstein, Armstrong, Millikan, Pupin, Lee de Forest, Crookes, Roentgen and many more are displayed on both sides of the photograph of his native house. These letters are testimonies that Nikola Tesla has been given credit by the people of importance in the world of science.
Nikola Tesla Museum – Personal Belongings Room
In the second room, exhibited are the some of Tesla’s carefully selected personal belongings, correspondence and documents.
There is a glass showcase that contains his crane, hat and suitcase together with things from his native country like an embroidered bag made by his mother which has been the most cherished souvenir of Tesla.
Museum of Nikola Tesla
One of the selected documents is a photocopy of Tesla’s letter to the consul of Jankovic in 1943. Among the others objects on display in this room are two photographs of two artists, Mark Twain, the American writer and R. A. Johnson a poet.
There is another glass showcase that contains the preserved photographs of Nikola Tesla’s family; his father Milutin, sisters Marica, Angelina and Milka, uncle and namesake Nikola, and great grandfather Toma.
The last glass showcase contains the document connected with his death and funeral in 1943 in New York.
Nikola Tesla Museum – The Urn Room
Tesla’s urn that contains his ashes is found in another room in the Nikola Tesla Museum. Also in this room are the written documents of the numerous recognition Tesla has received from the most important people in the world of science.
